AlienHost Logs (logs.alienhost.ovh) is a service operated by AlienHost (alienhost.es), a game-server hosting provider. This service allows users to share and analyze server logs for games such as Minecraft, Garry's Mod, and Source Engine games.

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Spanish data protection law, AlienHost acts as the data controller for this service.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Log Content You Submit

When you paste or upload a log file, we store the text content of that log on our servers. Log content may include server configuration details, plugin names, error messages, and other technical information generated by your game server software.

We apply automatic privacy sanitization to submitted logs before storage. This process attempts to remove or redact:

  • IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
  • API tokens, keys, and secrets
  • Passwords and credentials
  • Webhook URLs (Discord, Slack, etc.)
  • Database connection strings
  • Sensitive file system paths

Sanitization is best-effort and does not guarantee that all sensitive data will be removed. You are responsible for reviewing your log content before submitting it.

2.2 Technical Information

When you access this service, our web server automatically records standard HTTP request information, including:

  • Your IP address (used for rate limiting and abuse prevention)
  • HTTP method, path, and response status
  • Browser user-agent string
  • Date and time of the request

This data is stored in server access logs and is retained for a maximum of 30 days for security and operational purposes.

2.3 Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect or process:

  • Names, email addresses, or any account information (no registration required)
  • Payment information
  • Data from third-party tracking or advertising networks
  • Analytics or behavioral data beyond what is described above

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect for the following purposes:

  • Providing the service: Storing and displaying submitted logs, performing automatic analysis, and generating AI-powered insights.
  • Security and abuse prevention: Enforcing rate limits, detecting spam or abusive submissions, and protecting the integrity of the service.
  • Service improvement: Diagnosing errors and improving reliability based on anonymized technical data.

The legal basis for processing under GDPR is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for security and operational purposes, and performance of a contract / provision of the requested service (Article 6(1)(b)) for storing and displaying log content.

4. Data Retention

Submitted log entries are automatically deleted after a configurable expiry period (typically 7 days from the time of submission). Once deleted, log content cannot be recovered.

Server access logs are retained for up to 30 days and then deleted automatically.

5. AI Analysis

When you request an AI-powered analysis of a log, the log content is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. This means a copy of your log content is transmitted to OpenAI's servers subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy. AI analysis is an optional feature; you may use the basic log sharing and automatic analysis without triggering it.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

6.1 Essential Cookies

We use a session cookie (PHPSESSID) to support basic security mechanisms such as rate limiting. This cookie is strictly necessary for the service to function correctly and does not require your consent.

6.2 Functional Local Storage

We store a small item in your browser's localStorage for functional purposes:

  • Cookie consent preference: Your response to this cookie notice is stored locally so we do not show the banner on every page visit.

This data is stored entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. You can clear it at any time through your browser's developer tools or storage settings.

6.3 No Third-Party Tracking

We do not use Google Analytics, advertising cookies, social media trackers, or any other third-party tracking technology.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes. Data may be shared only in the following circumstances:

  • OpenAI: Log content is sent to OpenAI only when you explicitly request AI analysis.
  • Legal obligations: We may disclose data if required to do so by applicable law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
  • Infrastructure providers: Our hosting provider processes data on our behalf as a data processor and is bound by appropriate contractual safeguards.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification: You may request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure: You may request deletion of your data, subject to our legitimate interests and legal obligations.
  • Right to restriction: You may request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Right to data portability: You may request a machine-readable copy of data you have provided to us.
  • Right to object: You may object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Right to lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Authority (AEPD) at aepd.es.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in Section 10. Because the service does not require registration, we may ask you to provide the log ID or other identifiers to locate your data.

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
